Hardcore naxalite Subhash nabbed in Chhattisgarh

Nagpur, July 4: The police have nabbed a hardcore naxalite Subhash alias Vijay alias Aitu in a swift operation in Rajnandgaon district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Subhash, commander of the Darekasa Dalam of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), is suspected to have been involved in several acts of violence in the naxalite-infested districts in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, police sources said today.

Acting on a tip-off that Subhash had come to Dongargarh in Rajnandgaon district for medical treatment, the police laid a trap and nabbed him yesterday, sources said and added that he was immediately brought to the district headquarters.

Later, the police seized some arms and explosives, including two AK-47 assault rifles, two self-loading rifles (SLRs), three 12-bore rifles and explosives, which Subhash is suspected to have hidden nearby, police said.

Hailing from Bastar region, Subhash was suspected to have been active in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

A team of police from Gondia in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra has gone to Rajnandgaon to assist in the investigations, police added.
