Woman files case against husband under DVA
Tiruchirapalli, July 2 (UNI) A local court here today ordered the state Social Welfare Department officials to submit a detailed report within three days on a complaint filed by a woman against her husband, under Domestic Violence Act (DVA).
Lalgudi Judicial Magistrate L S Sathyamurthy gave the directions on a complaint by J Kasthuri (28), mother of three children, hailing from Kalpalayam village near Purathakudi in the district, against her husband John Milton (30), a civil engineer, for harassing her physically and mentally under the DVA.
The complainant said she got married to John Milton on February 13, 1999 but her Marital life was not smooth. His mother used to harass her, while her husband was carrying on an illicit affair with an unmarried girl of that area.
However, Kasthuri was abused and beaten up by her mother-in-law and her husband, and they even chased her out from the house.
Later, she lived in a rented house but was unable to bear the family expenses. When she approached the All Woman Police station at Lalgudi, she was advised to file a complaint under the Act.
Police Inspector N Valarmathi explained the salient features of the Act to her.
A copy of the order was also served to the All Woman Police Station at Lalgudi and a District Protection Officer, appointed by the government will follow the case.
It was the first complaint filed under DVA promulgated in 2005, in the Central Zone of Tamil Nadu.
