Maoist attacks in Bihar an 'intelligence failure': Rabri

Patna, July 2 (UNI) Former Bihar Chief Minister and Opposition leader Rabri Devi today held government's 'intelligence failure' and 'myopic vision' responsible for the growing Maoists' menace in the state.

Slamming the Nitish Kumar-led government for the recent attacks of the ultras in Rohtas district, that claimed 10 lives, including that of seven police personnel, Ms Rabri Devi here said the incident was a glaring example of 'intelligence failure' of the state government.

She alleged that instead of rushing to the spot, the police and bureaucrats issued statements sitting in the secretariat.

Some private channels had reacently shown the smuggling of dangerous firearms and explosives into the state through Nepal border but the state government had hardly taken any step to check it, she accused.

She said apart from strengthening the existing police machinery, the menace could be tackled through concrete socio-economic policy and by involving the common people.

She said, ''The state's policies have derailed from the track of development and have shattered its social fabric.'' According to her, there were inadequate police personnel with less firearms at sensitive and insecured following which they have become soft target of the extremists.

The 'faulty' system existing at the state headquarter had created anguish among the cops, she said and suggested the government to present a concrete work plan to tackle the maoists activities in the coming Assembly session.
