HC directs released prisoners to comply with bail conditions
New Delhi, July 2 (UNI) Delhi High Court today directed the Tihar Central Jail authorities to ask the 600-odd prisoners, released by court orders, to comply with bail conditions else they would be re-imprisoned.
The High Court ordered the release of 600 prisoners serving jail terms for petty crimes, after a court-appointed committee looking into the causes of death of seven jail inmates, pointed out that congestion in jails had resulted in suffocation and in turn the deaths of the inmates.
The 600 were released on a personal bail bond of Rs 2000 and asked to mark their attendance twice daily at the local police station.
The jail authorities today told the court that the released prisoners were not marking their presence.
The court gave ten days grace period to the released offenders to comply with the bail conditions, else they would be jailed again.
