Hisar, July 2 (UNI) Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) will promote resource conservation technologies for productive utilisation of water resources in agriculture in the state, with the financial assistance of Union Ministry of Water Resources.

HAU Vice-Chancellor J C Katyal said that 50 villages across the state would be covered under the project where the farmers would be apprised of and mobilised to adopt water saving technologies.

He said under the project various water saving technologies which include zero tillage, bed planting, laser land levelling, crop residue management and management of saline soils would be demonstrated in the selected villages.

Dr Katyal said the Central Water Commission, Ministry of Water Resources, had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh grant for the implementation of this project.

The project would be implemented by the Directorate of Extension Education of the university, he added.

Extension Education Director R K Malik said that in view of available water resources in the state for agriculture, efforts were already being made through Krishi Vigyan Kendras to educate the farmers about productive utilisation of water and other resource conservation technologies in agriculture. However, funds granted by the Ministry of Water Resources would help to further enhance the water productivity in the state, Dr Malik added.
