Five accused in fake stamp paper scam sentenced

Bangalore, July 2 (UNI) Special Judge for fake stamp paper cases M Vishwanath Angadi today sentenced five persons, including K A Raghavendra for ten years Rigorous Imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 29 lakh, in connection with offences of criminal conspiracy for counterfeiting of government stamps, possession of stamps, making or buying of instruments for the purpose of counterfeiting of stamps.

The quantum of punishment for the five persons was pronounced today, a CBI statement said here.

Justice Angadi had delivered the judgement in the case on June 30 against the five accused following the chargesheet by CBI. The City Market Police had registered a case in 1997 and handed it to CBI.

The CBI in its search at Janatha Printers, residential premises of Raghavendra and Srinivas Printing Press in 2004, had found fake stamp papers of various denominations along with equipment, materials used for printing the stamps.

The total value of the fake stamp papers seized in this case was Rs 1.52 crore.

The other accused four M Ramachandra, P Munna, G Masthan Saheb and P Mehaboob Khan were sentenced to seven years RI and a fine of Rs five lakh each, the statement said.
