Dr Shubha Raul blames builder lobby for civic problems in Mumbai
Mumbai, Jul 02 (UNI) Mumbai Mayor Dr Shubha Raul today blamed the builders' lobby for the city's civic problems.
Addressing media persons here, she said ''The builders' lobby is gaining an upper hand on the BMC and civic amenities.'' The urban town planning in the city is not in a phased manner due to which there are civic problems in the city, she said adding that the builders' builder lobby and high rises in the city were responsible for all the civic problems and water clogging in the city.
She explained that when the buildings are constructed builders do not consider the drainage system in the colony and the load falls on the existing drainage system.
''The builder lobby is so strong that all rules are bent for them, and it affects the civic amenities in the city,'' she said.
Dr Raul also blamed MMRDA officials for problems in the city as the officials have not done their work in a planned manner and there is no co-ordination between the MMRDA officials and the BMC officials.
Comparing Mumbai to Lord Krishna's mythological city, Dwarka which was engulfed in water, Dr Raul said ''If something is not done fast about Mumbai's present scenario, the city will soon turn into Dwarka city,'' she added.
