Chennai, July 2 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Unit of the Communist Party of India(CPI) today strongly condemned the Union Government for permitting the USS NIMITZ ship to be docked at the Chennai port, despite vehement protests from various sides.

Presiding over the demonstration, jointly organised by the CPI and Communist Party of India (Marxist), demanding that the Union Government withdraw its permission immediately, D Pandiyan Tamil Nadu Unit Secretary of CPI said by granting permission for NIMITZ, the Union Government had insulted 100 crore Indian citizens.

He alleged that NIMITZ was constructed to kill the human population in different parts of the world.

In his address CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan warned, if the Union Government permit the ship for docking in other ports of the country, the Left parties would intensify their protests.

Mr Varadarajan alleged that the Union Government's action in allowing NIMITZ in Indian water would not only endanger the environment, but also the country's soverignty.

The demonstrators raised anti US slogans.

The Left parties also burnt a replica of NIMITZ and a flag of the United States at the protest venue.

Similar demonstration was also held by the members of the Democratic Labour Front(DLF).
