STF jawan killed, 8 wounded in Doda encounter

Jammu, July 1 (UNI) A Special Task Force (STF) jawan has been killed and eight others wounded in an ongoing gunbattle with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants at Kulhand in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

STF jawan Abdul Rashid was killed late last night when two LeT militants opened fire upon the security personnel from a house at Doli village in Kulhand, officials told UNI.

Till last reports came in, eight STF personnel had been wounded in the encounter, which started at 1500 hrs yesterday.

Two seriously wounded personnel have been airlifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu.

The troops of 8 Rashtriya Rifles(RR) have also joined the STF operation and the area has been cordoned.

The gun battle was in progress till the last reports came in.
