Mumbai, July 1: The city today seems to be limping back to life after a monsoon fury during the last 24 hours, which claimed 16 lives and submerged parts of the city and adjoining suburbs in flash floods.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain or thundershowers, accompanied by strong gusty winds, to hit parts of the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours.

The total rainfall recorded in the metropolis during the last 24 hours is 44.7 mm at Colaba in south Mumbai and 256.6 mm at Santacruz in north Mumbai.

Suburban train services both on the Central and Harbour lines, which were disrupted yesterday, have been restored and are running late by a few minutes behind their scheduled time, said railway sources.

Yesterday's trough of low pressure on Sea level chart, extending from North Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast, now lies extended from North Maharashtra coast to Lakshadweep area.

Moderate to rather heavy rainfall is likely to hit most places over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada and Konkan areas.

However, heavy rainfall is predicted at a few places and very heavy rainfall at isolated places over North-South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and South Konkan during the next 24 hours.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places are likely to hit over North Konkan region during the same period.

The Met Department has issued a warning to fishermen from venturing into the high seas for the next 48 hours. The winds will be southwesterly with a speed of 45-50 kmph and are likely to reach 60 kmph temporarily in gusts.

As a result, the Sea will be rough to very rough with southwesterly waves. Signal number LC III is hoisted at all ports, starting from Dahanu in Maharashtra to Marmagao in Goa.
