West Bengal land promoter arrested in Tripura

Agartala, Jun 30: Alipore Judicial Magistrate in West Bengal has sent a land promoter to police custody for a day yesterday, following a complaint of cheating against him by wife of Tripura Information, Cultural and Tourism Affairs Minister Anil Sarkar.

Official sources here today said that the minister's wife Jyotiprabha Sarkar had lodged an FIR with the Kasba police station in West Bengal on June 28 against her nephew Subrata Sarkar, who was a promoter in this neighbouring state. Acting on the FIR lodged, the police arrested him on Wednesday night.

According to the complaint, Subrata borrowed three lakh rupees from Mrs Sarkar last year on the condition of repayment within a year or to hand over his two storeyed-building in Kasba.

However, Subrata did not repay the money till date and even refused to hand over the building.

Finally, Mrs Sarkar had filed an FIR and the police arrested Subrata.
