Thar Express not profitable for Indian Railways : NW GM

Jaipur, June 30 (UNI) Friendship train 'Thar Express' running between India and Pakistan has not been a profitable venture for Indian Railways.

Stating this here today at a press meet, North-Western general manager, Ashok Gupta said although the train has proved to be an important link in improving Indo-Pak relations but it has not proved financially beneficial for the Indian Railways and is running on losses.

Mr Gupta also said the new luxury train ''Heritage on Wheels'' touring the Shekhawati circuit in Rajasthan has also not been profitable for the Railways.

He said the gauge conversion work between Ajmer-Chittorgarh and Kolayat-Phalodi is almost complete and the tracks will be thrown open by next week.

The gauge conversion work on Phulera-Rewari track is slated to start soon and once it is complete, the double track container service till Delhi would start, he added.
