Self Help Groups(SHG) can do wonders: Lapang

Shillong, Jun 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang had said ''Self Help Groups(SHG) can do wonders to the economic condition of the people''.

Inaugurating a two-day training programme on Micro Credit institution and Credit Linkages organised by the Man Power Development and Management Institute(MDMI) at Nongpoh in Ri-bhoi district on Thursday appreciated the efforts of the MDMI for organising the training programme.

Mr Lapang said that Micro Credit Institutionns were considered as the most effective organisation for dispensation of credit in the rural areas and that the centre had given a special thrust to these institutions for improving the socio-economic conditions of the rural people especially the farmers and the economically weaker sections of the society.

He also released a book on 'Cooperatives and Economic Development in North East India.
