Mumbai, June 30 (UNI) Reliance Energy Limited that supplies electricity to several parts in Mumbai shut power supply here as a precautionary measure to prevent any mishap arising out of the continuous downpour in the metropolis.

Reliance Energy has switched off electricity in Bhayander (E) and (W), Mira Road (E), Dahisar (E), Kandivali (E) and (W), Malad (E), parts of Andheri (E) and (W), Kurar village, Chembur, Kurla and Garodia Nagar in Ghatkopar (E).

''The power supply to these areas had to be switched off purely on safety grounds to avoid any mishap. This is in response to information of water logging that we received from consumers, police and other agencies,'' Reliance Energy spokesperson said.

''We have resorted to safety shut down in all the affected areas.

The process of restoring electricity will start once water recedes and conditions are safe,'' the spokesperson added.

''The safety shutdown was also necessitated due to the possibility of electricity equipments getting submerged in the rain water,'' he added.
