Rain fury claims three lives in Thane district
Thane, June 30 (UNI) Day long torrential rains today claimed three lives in the district.
The Thane district Resident Deputy Collector told this correspondent that several areas of Mira Bhayander in Thane were heavily flooded due to the torrential rains.
As a result of which one resident of the locality fell into the culvert and was washed away, a frantic search is on for the body he said adding that two persons kied of electrocutionin adjacent Naigaon village of nearby Vasai Taluka.
Meanwhile, thousands of marooned people have been evacuated to safety from low lying areas which reeled under flood, he said.
Those rescued were from, Dighe, Kopri and Anand Nagar locality of Thane city.
He said that while the rains were heavy in Thane city and surrounding areas it was not not so heavy in the rural parts of the district.
The rain fall till noon was around 32.22 mm and the highest was recorded in Vasai and Thane the official said.
Firemen in the city had a tough time attending to calls of heavy flooding in the low lying areas.
Vehicular traffic was affected in several parts of the district.
In Thane city besides Ambedkar road which faces perrinial problem of water logging, many other low lying areas especially the slums bore the brunt of the downpour as they were innundated in water, the police said.
