MoS for Home Jaiswal to attend meet on Afghanistan

New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal will lead the Indian delegation to the Rule of Law Conference on Afghanistan being held in Rome on July 2-3.

The Conference is being jointly organized by the Afghan and the Italian Governments and would be jointly chaired by the two governments and the United Nations, the foreign office here said.

The aim of the Conference is to secure a high-level political commitment for reforms in the justice sector in Afghanistan.

President Hamid Karzai, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and NATO Secretary General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer will also be attending the Conference.

India's assistance pledge to Afghanistan is 750 million dollars which covers a wide range of projects spread all across Afghanistan.

In the Rome Conference, India will reaffirm its commitments to the development and reconstruction of Afghanistan and to the overall reform of the legal and judicial process in Afghanistan.
