Heavy rains disrupt normal life in Vidarbha

Nagpur, Jun 30 (UNI) Normal life has been disrupted at several places in Vidarbha after this region in Maharashtra received heavy rains over the last 24 hours.

The rainfall has been particularly heavy in Nagpur division with 48 tehsils having recorded excess rainfall during the period, according to an official release here.

The administration has shifted a total of 84 families in three districts in the division to safer places, the press release said.

These included 50 families in Wardha district, 25 in Gadchiroli and 9 in Chandrapur district, it said.

Kurkheda in Gadchiroli district recorded 377.40 millimetres (mm) of rainfall during the last 24 hours, it also said. Gadchiroli district has recorded an average of 103.90 mm of rainfall, which includes 175 mm at Armori and Wadsa each, 130 in Dhanora, 72.20 in Mulchera and 94.20 in Gadchiroli town, the press release said, adding that traffic on several roads in the district has come to a standstill.

In Chandrapur district, the heavy downpour partially damaged nine houses and brought traffic on the busy Chandrapur-Mul Road to a halt, the release said.
