Prez polls: George Fernandes calls on Bal Thackeray

Mumbai, June 30: NDA convenor George Fernandes called on Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray at his residence, seeking his party's votes for NDA-backed Independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in the July 19 Presidential election.

According to Sena sources, the meeting, held yesterday, had nothing to do with the ongoing politics, but was meeting of ''good friends''.

However, political observers feel that this was another 'desperate' attempt of the BJP to keep its NDA flock together for the Presidential election.

Tension is prevailing between the two parties, after the Shiv Sena announced its support to UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil in the Presidential election.
