First DG of Army's Remount Veterinary Services

New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) The Army's Remount Veterinary Services today got its first Director General with Lt Gen Narayan Mohanty assuming office here.

Lt Gen Mohanty -- who has so far had a distinguished career in the Army spanning 37 years -- is an alumni of the Orissa Veterinary College, Bhubaneswar, having graduated in 1969. He did his post- graduation in Veterinary Surgery in 1986 from the same college.

He has commanded the Military Veterinary Hospital attached to the President's Body Guard (PBG). Besides, he has had the distinction of commanding the Remount Training School&Depot, Hempur and the Equine Breeding Stud Farm, Babugarh -- the two leading institutions of the Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC).

A sportsman of repute, he has promoted equestrian sports in the country and was actively associated in the selection and training of the Indian team for Asiad-2006 which won the country a bronze medal.

Currently, he is associated with the development of Equestrian sports and was instrumental in creating world-class infrastructure in the country.

A qualified International Judge, he has participated in the 1982 Asian Games, held in New Delhi, as Judge and as Manager-cum-Coach of the Indian Equestrian Contingent for the Doha Asian Games, 2006.

Lt Gen Mohanty has been honoured with the prestigious Fellowship of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (India) by the country's National Academy of Veterinary Sciences.

As Director General of the Remount Veterinary Services, he is the custodian of the largest organised equine and canine breeding, rearing, training and health-care operations in the country.

Lt Gen Mohanty has been awarded the Vishisht and Ati Vishist Sewa Medals for distinguished services.
