Fire breaks out in Sector 17 BSNL Exchange

Chandigarh, June 30 (UNI) A fire broke out in the BSNL Exchange in Chandigarh today, disrupting telecommunication services across the city.

About 40,000 landline telephones, equal number of GSM mobile phones and inter-net services were rendered out of service due to the fire in the transmission section of the BSNL Exchange at Sector 17, BSNL officials said.

Several equipments were destroyed in the fire which was noticed around 0700 hours.

Senior officers of the BSNL and police have rushed to the site.

Fire tenders from the city were immediately called which put out the blaze around noon, police said.

The loss of the property, which may run into crores of rupees, was being assessed. The cause of the fire was being ascertained.
