Kochi, June 30 (UNI) Fifteen crew members, including five Indians, of the Cargo ship ''M V Maria'' were rescued today after it sank off the Cochin port.

All the crew members, which also included ten Albanians, were rescued and brought safely to the shore, Cochin Port Trust spokesman said.

The ship, heading to Albania from China, had developed a leak in the hull and was anchored in the outer anchorage of Cochin Port for the last three days, he said. As the ship began to sink today, the Captain sent a distress message following which two tugs were sent for rescue operations.

All the rescued crew members were sent to the Port Trust Hospital for medical check up and no injury was reported, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile the Coast Guard and Navy had been informed for further course of action, especially for anti-pollution activities. The Customs and Immigration Departments as well as the Nautical Advisor to the Government of India had been notified about the incident, he said.
