Strict action against illegal tree cutters: Mayor
Mumbai, Jun 28 (UNI) The first citizen of Mumbai, Shubha Raul today said BMC will take strict action against people who illegally cut trees and do not plant the double number of trees.
Jairaj Pathak stated BMC has registered 120 cases of illegal tree cutting in the last one year and the offenders include individuals and companies.
Dr Raul said ''Strict action will be taken on the offenders and we will see to it that the tree cutters plant double number of trees.'' She said if any construction company or a builder cuts trees illegally, the construction will be stopped by BMC.
Pathak said on an average BMC gives permission to cut 600 trees and double number of trees are planted and in addition, BMC and other agencies plant trees in the city.
Pathak said added the trees on heritage sites or buildings, will not be permitted to be cut as it may damage the structure.
