School students picket Education department
Puducherry, June 29 (UNI) Students of seven Government schools in the Puducherry region of the Union Territory abstained from classes and picketed the Education department to press their demands here today.
They demanded that vacancies for teachers posts be filled up forthwith, free text books and cycles be distributed in time and the Government bring in an Act to ensure 50 per cent seats for it in the private medical and engineering colleges here. The students took out a procession to the education department.
School Education Director Ragesh Chandra held talks with the agitating students and assured them that steps would be taken to fulfill their demands within a week, following which the students called off their agitation.
