Produce 'Boy Surgeon' before Juvenile Justice Board

Madurai, June 29 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today directed the police to arrest and produce before the Juvenile Justice Board Dhileepan Raj, the teenager facing the charges of performing a caesarean operation at his parent's hospital in Manaparai.

Disposing off the anticipatory bail petition filed by Dhileepan Raj, Justice G Rajasuria directed the police to produce him before the Juvenile Justice Board and proceed further into the matter.

The Judge had yesterday directed the government advocate to obtain necessary instructions from the police with regard to the case.

In his petition, the boy, a school student, submitted that he had no bad antecedents but apprehended arrest as the police had registered a case charging him with performing medical surgery without the requisite qualification. Denying the charges, he claimed he had been falsely implicated in the case.

The boy's parents, K Murugesan and M Gandhimathi, both doctors, had encouraged him to perform a caesarean operation on a pregnant woman at their hospital on March 25. The whole procedure was recorded on video and reportedly screened at a meeting of the local chapter of the IMA on May six, triggering a controversy.

Police registered a case under various sections of the IPC and the Indian Medical Council Act.

The teenagers' parents were arrested and remanded to custody.
