No construction on green belt: Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai, Jun 29: Mayor Dr Shubha Raul today said the green belts in the city should remain so, and there should be no construction in the no development zone.

But the improvement committee of BMC on tuesday had passed construction and development orders on the green belt at Anik Depot, and in the process hundreds of trees will be cut. The committee is headed by Yeshodhar Phanse of the Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena-BJP has a majority in the house.

Dr Raul said the order passed at Anik depot will have to be seen in a proper perspective as apart from the BMC, clearances from various other agencies are required for developing a no development zone.
