JK: Rape accused Army men sent to 4-day PC

Srinagar, June 29: A local court has rejected a bail plea of two Army men and sent them to four-day police remand for the alleged rape attempt on a 17-year-old girl from a Gujjar hamlet in Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Tuesday.

After hearing both the sides, the court rejected the bail application of Naik Kulwant Singh and Naik Gurminder Singh of the military intelligence unit of 57 Rashtriya Rifles.

The two were caught red-handed by villagers of Pati Kunan, a Gujjar hamlet in Bandipora district, while allegedly attempting rape on the 17-year-old girl in her residence on Tuesday.

The soldiers were allegedly beaten up and paraded in public before being handed over to the police. The incident had triggered violent protests in the area.

The court later sent the two Army personnel to four-day police remand and ordered recording of the victim's statement under 166 CrPC. The girl has been medically examined and a report in this regard was awaited.
