Srinagar, Jun 29 (UNI) The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in Jammu and Kashmir today asked the Director General of Prisons to file a detailed factual report on the whereabouts of a farmer who had allegedly gone missing from Udhampur jail in May this year.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report stating that 45-year-old Ghulam Mohiuddin had gone missing from Udhampur jail, SHRC Chairperson Justice M Y Kawoosa asked the Director General of Prisons to furnish the detailed factual report by July 30.

The Army had Mohiuddin, a resident of Tangmarg in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, last year. He was later booked under the Public Safety Act.

However, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on May 5 this year quashed the PSA against Mohiuddin, a father of six children, and ordered his immediate release from the jail.

When Mohiuddin was not released despite court orders, his wife Rafiqa approached the jail authorities. They told her that he had already been released.

Rafiqa fears that her husband might have been killed or shifted to another jail in the country.

The family has appealed to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to order an inquiry into the matter.
