Inter-state gang of petrol-pump robbers busted

Ambala, June 28 (UNI) The Ambala Special Police Team busted an inter-state gang of robbers operating in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh targeting petrol pumps, police said here today.

The arrested robbers, who are out on bail, belonged to Punjab and Haryana who came in contact while in Burail jail Chandigarh, SSP Sandeep Khirbar told presspersons.

Three of the arrested robbers had looted filling stations in the towns of Punjab and at Ambala recently.

The three robbers identified as Raja of Jind, Gurbinder of Ambala and Ajay Sharma of Barnala in Punjab, were arrested from Chandigarh and Dera Bassi.

He said that five robbers in a car had struck at Raj and Company filling station near Baldevnagar Ambala City and had looted the sale proceeds worth Rs 7500 at pistol point. They also locked the two salesmen in the bathroom and escaped.

These robbers he said, had purchased country made pistols from Uttar Pradesh and had used it in a robbery at Rajpura based petrol pump from where they robbed Rs 7,000 creating panic in Ambala, Rajpura and Dera Bassi belt.

They lived in Dera Bassi in a rented room and were planning to commit crimes of robbery and snatching at pistol-point, he said adding that a number of incidents of looting and robbery were likely to be solved with their arrest.
