Incessant rains lash Kolhapur; claim one life

Kolhapur, Jun 29 (UNI) Incessant rains lashing this district since last evening claimed one life in Pachagaon area in the city.

The deceased Sunita Suresh Patil (19) from pachagaon area drowned in a flooded nullah, where she had gone to wash clothes, police sources said.

The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) fire-brigade spokesman said they attended about 30 cases of rain-related incidents like logging of nullah water in a house, wall collapose among others.

Verhicular traffic on various routes in rural areas was disrupted as rivers are in spate and also nulahas, 'bandharas', bridges.

Rail traffic on the Kolhapur-Konkan route is functioning normally, collector office and police sources said.

The continuous downpour resulted in overflowing of the main Panchaganga river in the district.

The water level of various irrigation dams is increasing speedily due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area, irrigration department sources said.

The water level of major dams including Radhanagari, one of the drinking water resources of Kolhapur city, Kalammawadi dam, Chandolee dam is also rising.

Highest rainfall of 246 mm of rainfall was recorded in Gagabavada tehsil while the lowest rainfall of 20 mm was recorded in Shirol tehsil in the past 24 hours, collector office sources added.
