Himesh Reshammiya's burqa clad Ajmer visit sparks protests

Varanasi, June 29 (UNI) Members of the Muslim community staged demonstration here today against singer and Bollywood music composer Himesh Reshammiya wearing a 'burqa' to the revered shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer.

Led by Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Committee convenors Iqbal Rayeen and Rayees, the protesters gathered at the Sajan cinema hall here this afternoon and set afire posters of Himesh Reshammiya-starrer film 'Apka Suroor', which was released today.

Raising anti-Himesh slogans, the protesters alleged that by wearing 'burqa' to the 13th century shrine of the Sufi saint, the Bollywood musician had hurt the sentiments of Khawaja's followers across the globe.

''He should be ashamed of such a blasphemous act,'' Iqbal Rayeen, also an RJD leader, said.

Himesh had created a furore after he visited the Ajmer shrine disguised in a black burqa to avoid being mobbed by fans.
