Haryana to set up 1857 memorial at Ambala
Sonepat, Jun 29: The Haryana government has decided to set up a memorial at Ambala in memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the First War of Independence in 1857.
Besides, parks would be developed in the villages belonging to the martyrs so that the youth could derive inspiration from their lives, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said yesterday while speaking at a function at Bahalgarh village in the district organised to mark the martyrdom day of Saheed Udmi Ram Nambardar.
Paying his tributes to the known and unknown martyrs of the country, the Chief Minister said they infused a feeling of patriotism among the youth and faced a number of ordeals to protect the dignity of the country.
He urged the youth to emulate the ideals propagated by the martyrs and patriots.
Referring to the First War of Independence, Mr Hooda said the war first broke out at Ambala and then in Meerut and other parts of the country. He said about 24,000 people from all over the state sacrificed their lives in First War of Independence.
