Haryana to enforce Construction Workers Act

Chandigarh, Jun 29 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to implement the provisions of the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Condition of Service) Act, 1996.

This was stated by Haryana Finance, Labour and Employment Minister Birender Singh while presiding over a meeting of the administrative secretaries, head of departments and heads of public sector undertakings.

The meeting was called for implementation of the Act in terms of registration of establishments and levy and collection of cess within their departments and undertakings.

The Finance Minister said the cess deducted at source from the bills paid or collected would be transferred to Secretary, Haryana Buildings and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

The cess collecting agency may deduct actual collection expenses not exceeding one per cent of the total amount of cess, he added.
