Haryana seeks approval for Rs 1217 cr irrigation schemes

Chandigarh, Jun 29 (UNI) The Haryana government has forwarded 12 irrigation schemes costing Rs 1217 crore to the Centre for its approval under the Bharat Nirman programme.

Stating this here today, Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav said that under these schemes the irrigation potential of 2.38 lakh hectares of land would be augmented during the next four years.

Besides, he said the work on renovation of Mesani Bairaj reservoir had been started and a sum of Rs 6.7 crore would be incurred on this scheme.

He said a Rs 200 crore scheme had been chalked out for flood control in Jind, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Hisar districts.

Capt Yadav said NABARD had accorded its approval for 38 schemes costing Rs 132.29 crore for the augmentation of irrigation facility and better water management.

The Minister said the 109 km long BML Hansi Butana multipurpose canal, having 2000 cusecs capacity, was being constructed at a cost of Rs 354 crore.

After the commissioning of the canal, West Yamuna Canal and Lift Irrigation system would get more water and 16 districts of the state would get benefit of this canal.
