Haryana earmarks Rs 22 cr for Animal Husbandry

Chandigarh, June 29 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked an outlay of Rs 22 crore for the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department to carry out various planned activities during the current financial year in the state.

Stating this, an official spokesman said that for improving the germplasm of Murrah buffalo, Rs one crore had been earmarked and top quality animals would be identified with an ultimate objective of establishing a 'gene pool' of this unique germplasm for future breeding.

Special attention would be provided to the improvement of genetic stock with attention towards preservation, multiplication and improvement of indigenous germplasm of Murrah buffaloes and Hariana and Sahiwal breeds of cows.

He said that to make the state animal disease free, a comprehensive programme for control of Foot and Mouth disease was also under way for which a total of Rs 4.3 crore, including Rs 3.3 crore Central share, had been earmarked for the year 2007-08.

For the staff and infrastructure in the Veterinary institutions a provision of Rs 12.15 crore and Rs two crore for the purchase of medicines have been provided.
