Geelani protests rape attempt by armymen in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 29 (UNI) Breakaway Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today led a protest here against the alleged rape attempt on a 17-year-old girl by two armymen in Bandipora district and also to highlight the plight of detainees from Jammu and Kashmir in various jails of the country.

Hundreds of Mr Geelani's supporters gathered soon after the Friday prayers at Abi Guzar here to protest the alleged rape attempt by soldiers and the ''pathetic and inhuman'' condition of detainees.

The protestors shouted slogans against the Army and alleged that the detainees were subjected to ''severe atrocities and inhuman treatment'' in the prisons during the past more than a decade.
