Fierce encounter on between 2 holed up militants, forces in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jun 29 (UNI) A fierce encounter is going on between two militants holed up in a house and security forces in north Kashmir since early this morning.

A police spokesman said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir launched a search operation on a specific information that some militants were hiding in Banday Mohalla at Handwara late last night.

He said area was sealed and a cordon laid around a particular house.

With the first light this morning, security forces challenged militants, hiding inside the house.

Militants opened fire which was returned by the security forces who had taken position in the nearby houses after the residents were evacuated to safer places.

The encounter was still on when the reports last came in, he said.
