Draft for 'Heritage Conservation Policy' soon

Mysore, June 29 (UNI) The Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage in Karnataka, will release the draft for 'Heritage Conservation Policy' within ten days in the State, according to its Commissioner Venkatesh Machakanur.

Talking to newspersons here today, he said the Town and Country Planning Act would be amended to formulate the policy. The department which would constitute heritage clubs in all districts in the state, was in the process of identifying Institutions for the purpose, he added.

Mr Machakanur informed the clubs were expected to function in about two months with the involvement of Teachers, Historians and Principals of the various institutions.

Stating that the main objective of the clubs would be to train youths for conservation of heritage structures and murals like Institutions-artefacts, paintings on ceilings, walls and columns of heritage structures, especially by avoiding disfiguring heritage walls structures, tying cattle and pollution.

Earlier, the Commissioner, presided over the workshop on heritage conservation for teachers and principals, from 26-high-schools in and around Mysore.

The event was jointly organised by Regional museums and Natural History and Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage.
