Customised software for watershed planning released

Hyderabad, June 29 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Rural Development G Chinna Reddy today released the customised watershed planning and estimation software for minimizing the operational problems and enhancing effective implementaiton of watershed development progrmmes in the country according to schedule.

Releasing the software, the minister called for sensitizing the people on watershed programme and said the software would help in getting an informed approach towards watershed management.

He cautioned the software, while enabling a quicker approach, should not displace the participatory approach in watershed programmes.

He stressed the need for micro-level planning which could be achieved through this software and said it would help in scientific management of watersheds programmes in the country.

Associated Professor of National Institute of Rural Development(NIRD) Anil Takalkar said the watershed development programme had positive impact on the development of soil, water, vegetation and overall environmental aspects and led to reclamation of large extent of wastelands.

He said the NIRD developed the customised watershed planning and estimation software in collaboration with Watershed Technology and Management Institute of Pune.

He said the customised package had been developed for eleven states including Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The package for the other states would be developed after operatinalisation of the 11 state packages.
