CPM resents govt's 'apathy' towards H-K Region

Gulbarga, Karnataka, Jun 29 (UNI) CPI(M) State Committee Member Maruthi Manpade today expressed resentment over the curtailment of funds meant for taking up developmental works in Hyderabad-Karnataka Region, as per the recommandations of Nanjundappa Committee, to remove regional imbalance.

Addressing a press conference here, he pointed out the government had earmarked Rs 1,571 crore for the development of various backward areas as per the committee recommendations.

The H-K region was to be allocated Rs 628 crore, but the Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, also holding finance portfolio, had sanctioned only Rs 499 crore, he alleged.

Mr Manpade criticised the deputy chief minister for ignoring the pleas of the committee members who had brought this to his attention.

He said the CPM would be holding a round-table to discuss the alleged injustice meted out to the region, on July one.

Ministers, legislators and leaders belonging to all parties had been invited for the meeting.

The CPM leader demanded the government implement the Nanjundappa Committee recommendations in toto.
