All India Consumer Price Index increases by one point.

Shimla, June 29 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001-100 for the month of May, 2007 increased by one point and stood at 129 points, according to Labour Bureau here today.

During May, the Index recorded an incease of four points each in Jalapaiguri and Rourkela centres, three points each in Madurai, Bhilai and Belgaum centres, two points in eight centres and one point in 25 centres.

However, the index decreased by three points in Siliguri centre, two points each in Jharia, Mungher Jamalpur and Agra centres and by one point in other 13 centres, while in the remaining 23 centres the index remained stationary.

The increase of four points in Jalpaiguri centre was mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, wheat flour, fresh fish, vegetable and fruit items while in Rourkela centre this increase was the outcome of increase in the prices of rice, goat meat, milk, vegetable and fruit items, salted snack and firewood. On the other hand the decrease of three points in Siliguri centre was mainly on account of decrease in the prices of wheat flour, vegetable and fruit items.

The indices in respect of the six main centres: Ahmedabad (127), Bangalore (134), Chennai (123), Delhi(128), Kolkata (130) and Mumbai (132).

The point to point rate of inflation, based on the CPI-IW on base 2001=100 has decreased from 6.67 per cent in April, 2007 to 6.61 per cent in May 2007.
