12,568 cases pending in Kerala HC: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, June 29 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today told the Assembly that 12,568 cases were pending for disposal before the High Court till May 31.

In a written reply to Mr Saju Paul (CPM), he said as on April 30 the number of cases pending before the lower courts were 9,11,451.

Asserting steps were being taken for speedy disposal of cases, he said the government had given sanction to establish more courts on priority basis in various parts of the state.

According to the availability of funds, new courts would be started in a time bound manner, he added.

Mr Balakrishan also said for the disposal of old cases, 38 fast track courts were functioning across the state. Besides, adalats were also being organised under the auspices of the Kerala State Legal Services Authorities.
