UP govt orders probe into ghee made using animal bones
Lucknow, June 28 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered probe into recent media reports that ghee in some parts of the state was being manufactured using animal bones.
State parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Verma replying to an adjournment motion of Congress member Pramod Tiwari said, the matter was very serious and the guilty people would not be spared.
However, the government refused the demand of the Congress member for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the issue.
Raising the issue Mr Tiwari said, several officials of the food and supply department are involved in the racket in which animal bones are used to prepare adulterated ghee in places like Hapur and Meerut.
As per the racket, the alleged people are preparing 30 kilograms of ghee from three quintals of animal bones after mixing it with chemicals, he said. These people are selling this adulterated ghee at the rate of Rs 160 to 180 per kg.
Earlier, a news channel had telecast a sting operation regarding the racket of adulterated ghee.
