Students rally against 'absent' teacher, arrested
Mangaldai,Jun 28 (UNI) At least 150 school children in the age group of 6-10 and their guardians were arrested at Mangaldai in central Asom when they tried to gherao the deputy commissioner's office.
The students from Nangelichar Lower Primary School came out on to the streets demanding continuation of their education at their school, which remained closed due to absence of the only teacher since the last fourteen months.
The students, under the banner of Darrang District Nagarik Sanstha, marched to the DC's office this morning after arriving here.
The Nangelichar Lower Primary School is situated at the south bank of the Brahmaputra river in Darrang district, about 16 km from here.
Police said the students have been arrested for violating the 144 Cr P C and on charges of blocking the main entrance of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
The students were released later.
