Punjab assembly adjourned for second time
Chandigarh, June 28 (UNI) The Punjab Assembly was adjourned for the second time today when it reassembled after the first adjournment following noisy scenes by the opposition Congress demanding discussion on the law and order issue.
Disallowing the discussion, Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon in his ruling said the issue of law and order had been discussed during the budget session and this matter could not be raised again in the House.
This led to protests from the Opposition members who raised slogans and trooped into the well of the House, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for the second time till 1300 hours.
Earlier, Mr Kahlon adjourned the House in the wake of noisy protests by the opposition Congress members, after he refused to admit their adjournment motion seeking discussion on the law and order issue during the Zero Hour.
The Speaker had maintained that he would take a decision on the adjournment motion only after studying it in detail and as per the rules. But this did not satisfy the Opposition members who, led by their leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, came into the well of the House and shouted slogans demanding that their motion be admitted. At this juncture, the Speaker adjourned the House for an hour.
