Punjab assembly adjourned after Congress protest
Chandigarh, Jun 28 (UNI) The Punjab assembly was adjourned for an hour following noisy protests by the opposition Congress after Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon did not permit them to discuss the law and order issue in the state during zero hour.
The opposition had forwarded an adjournment motion to the Speaker this morning with the demand that it be admitted to the House today.
The Speaker maintained in the House that he would take a decision on the adjournment motion only after studying it in detail and as per the rules.
Following the Speaker's ruling opposition members, including their leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, were on their feet demanding that the adjournment motion be admitted. Raising slogans they trooped into the well of the House.
At this juncture, the Speaker adjourned the House for an hour.
