No plans to enter LCD market in India: Acer

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Taiwan-based 11.31 billion dollar technology giant Acer today said it has no immediate plans to foray into the growing LCD market in the country.

''We do not have any immediate plans to enter this segment as it requires a different business model,'' Acer India Ltd General Manager (Marketing and Sales) S Rajendran told UNI.

Currently lesser known Acer brand of LCD is marketed in the US and China while Indian market is dominated by players like Sony, Samsung, LG and Hitachi.

According to an ORG survey for January-March quarter of 2006-07, Samsung tops the market share with 36 per cent, followed by LG with 30 per cent and Sony in the third spot accounting for 14 per cent.

''We aim to aggresively expand our market share for desktop PCs and LCD TVs in the US and China,'' said company Chairman and CEO J T Wang.

Acer manufacture products such as mobile and desktop PCs, servers and storage, LCD monitors and high-definition TVs, peripherals and e-business solutions.

The company employs 5,300 people including supporting dealers and distributors in more than 100 countries.
