Moderate showers hit Delhi, Monsoon rains could follow

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) After a dry spell of over a week, light to moderate showers hit Delhi this morning, raising the hope for an early arrival of Monsoon in the capital.

The rains, which hit the city at around 1030 hours, followed a heavily overcast sky since early this morning.

The rains, which were accompanied by thundershowers, brought back some coolness in the weather in Delhi, bringing down minimum temperature by a few degrees, from 28.7 Degree Celsius this morning.

After spells of spells of pre-Monsoon rains in the third week of June, clouds and rain have been playing hide and seek with the city.

Also, the last week has seen Delhi witness hot and humid conditions which have left the people sweltering.

Today's rains also arouse the hope of timely arrival of the South West monsoon in Delhi, where it is scheduled to arrive around June 29. Infact, the Met office has forecast that with a low pressure system building up in the Northwest Bay of Bengal, Monsoon could arrive in the Capital by this weekend.

More showers are expected in the day with the weather office forecasting a partly cloudy sky in the city during the next 24 hours with possibility of rains or thundershowers.
