Loadshedding likely today due to power shortage
Kolkata, Jun 28 (UNI) Major power failure is likely today in Kolkata, Howrah and the adjoining areas under CESC due to power shortage.
Speaking to UNI, CESC Chief General Manager(CGM) (Systems&Operations) Bijoy Chakrabarty said, '' CESC's regular demand is around 1370 MW. Out of this, 900 MW comes from CESC's own generation, 470 MW from West Bengal State Distribution Company Limited(WBSDCL) and 60 to 65 MW from other states. '' '' There is shortfall of 200 to 250 MW today from WBSDCL's supply due to closure of the Farakka unit. We will shed load by rotation across the city and its adjoining areas from 1900 to 1200 hours, '' he said.
Massive power failure had been reported in Kolkata and adjoining areas throughout the summer months, though the West Bengal government claimed to be a power-surplus state.
