Kerala HC notice to School, PTA on HIV kids

Kochi, June 28 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today issued notices to the Mar Dionysius Primary School, Pampady and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school on a petition seeking five HIV positive children to be admitted and allowed to continue education there.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Mr Justice K T Sankaran directed the notices be despatched through special messenger.

The court direction came on a petition filed by the Thiruvananthapuram-based Foundation for Integrated Mental Health, which sought the five HIV positive children be admitted to the school and allowed to continue their education and not be discriminated against.

At a recent meeting of the PTA convened by the school management, parents of other children had threatened to withdraw their wards if the HIV positive children were allowed into the school.

The PTA was scheduled to meet again next week to discuss the issue.
