Kerala HC grants two-week stay on notice against Kannan Devan

Kochi, June 28 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today granted a two-week stay on the notice issued by the state forest department to the Kannan Devan Hill Plantation Corporation Private Limited to take over its land at Munnar.

Justice K M Joseph gave the interim order while hearing a petition filed by Kannan Devan Hill Plantation Corporation Pvt Ltd., challenging the government notice on the ground that it was issued without jurisdiction and application of mind.

According to the forest department, Kannan Devan had violated the Kerala Forest Conservancy Act and encroached upon more than 3,000 acres of forest land in Munnar.
